A campus wide initiative standardize the locks for all classrooms and offices has been underway since June 2018. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the different types of locks we have in the SON in the event of a lockdown scenario or an emergency.

There are two types of locks to familiarize yourself with.

We presently have the following locks on most SON offices, classrooms and conference rooms:

Though these locks look different, they function the same way. In order to engage the lock, the door must be opened to toggle between the lock and unlock settings.

The following shows the locks that will soon be found on all large classrooms and auditoriums in the SON:

New classroom door locks

These new locks use a thumb latch to allow occupants to lock the room from within without having to open the door to toggle the switch.

Finally, below is another lock that will be typical for all medium and small classrooms, conference rooms and simulation spaces in the SON. Like the auditorium locks, the thumb latch allows room occupants to lock the door without opening it. Additionally the lever handle will make these rooms ADA compliant.

Smaller classroom upgraded locks

It is always wise to familiarize yourself with your surroundings.  Please take mental note of these changes to our locking mechanisms and contact the facilities office if you have any question or concerns about the new hardware.
